The year 2026 will be a turning point for crypto casinos in Europe. The new regulation, called MiCA, radically changes all businesses working with cryptocurrency.

What is MiCA?

MiCA is the European Union's first comprehensive law regulating crypto assets. The main purpose of this law is to make the cryptocurrency market safer, more transparent and more regulated.

What's Changing in 2026?

Anonymity is being removed completely. You will no longer be able to place anonymous bets with cryptocurrency. KYC, or identity verification, becomes mandatory for all transactions. Players will have to prove their identity before depositing money.

License requirement is coming. Every operator who wants to operate a crypto casino must obtain a VASP, or virtual asset service provider, license in the country where they are located. This license means additional costs and bureaucracy.

Stablecoins are being strictly regulated. Stable coins such as USDT and USDC now have to be backed by full reserves. They also need special permission to operate in Europe.

Tokens can now be considered securities. The casinos' own tokens, namely loyalty tokens, can now be considered securities. In this case, additional declarations and regulations will be required.

What Should Crypto Casino Operators Do?

They must fully establish KYC processes, obtain a MiCA-compatible license, provide proof of reserve if using stable coins, and obtain legal consultancy if they are going to issue tokens.
